Our Annual Meeting
Our 2019 Annual Meeting was held on Tuesday, July 16 at The Copper Fox. As always, this meeting was open to the public so that members and Springfielders could have the opportunity to hear annual updates from our downtown partners.
The Woolson Block Building Renovation Project
TroutStock 2019
After working with community groups and local business and property owners for the past year, everything is finally OUT of the building so that the almost $9M renovation can begin! SOM and SRDC will now be looking to get businesses into the 3-4 street level retail spaces for when the renovation is completed.
After the first year collaboration with Trout River Brewing Company, this live music, food truck, and beer event was a wonderful success with 200 attendees! The word "TroutStock" is derived from Trout River Beer, Springfield's own craft brewery, and Woodstock, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Since we wanted the focus to be on the live music component and not simply the beer, TroutStock came to be!
Besides being at Trout River's manufacturing site at One Hundred River Street also in attendance at this inaugural fundraiser event for SOM were the bands Foreverinmotion, Johnny O, and The Illusion. Our food vendors included 2 food trucks (Simply Asian and Taco's Tacos) and Cuppity Kakes, whose brick and mortar store is also on site at One Hundred River Street. We had life sized games provided by Games2Go and The Current provided local transporation for our VIP Ticket holders to and from their home in Springfield and North Springfield.
Our hope for next year's event is to add 2-3 more music sets as well as additional food vendors, and to extend the hours so that early evening is also included.
Wayfinding Signage Project
The picture to the left is an example of what wayfinding signage is. SOM is working with the Town of Springfield to get locals and visitors to our places of interest in a more efficient manner, both online as well as with signage. We want to better direct people to our schools, historic downtown, public parking areas, hospital, the State offices, and our own Town Hall. We are also looking to make our downtown crosswalks safer with solar, pedestrian-activated flashing lights which will notify drivers that pedestrians are in the crosswalk. Initally, we are looking specifically at the crosswalk by the Springfield Senior Center as well as the crosswalk which will be by the new Comtu Cascade Falls Park. We have also purchased and installed solar powered lights on all three of our Welcome to Springfield gateway signs.
